Switch PHP version in cPanel

If you are using cPanel, you can easily change your PHP version using the cPanel PHP Version switching tool

Step 1 - Sign into your Watch the Dot Hosting Account

  • How to: Login to your Web Hosting account

    • Step 2 - Navigate to Software

    Step 3 - click the "Select PHP version" item

    Your cPanel layout may look slightly different from our screenshot depending on the cPanel theme you are using

    Step 4 - Select your preferred PHP version from list

    We recommend using the latest version.

    Step 5 - Click "Set as Current"

    This will set the version of PHP in use on your website live.

    Step 6 - Check your website

    If your website is incompatible with the latest version of PHP you may receive an error (older WordPress themes for example occasionally utilise functions that were removed in PHP version 7). This is nothing to worry about and can be fixed by repeating the steps above, and selecting an earlier version.
